Totten Inlet Cottage
Cape Cod on Totten inlet in olympia
september 2025
Pictures coming soon! Set to complete in September and photo-shot in October.
Our client moved into her beautiful home in 2022 and knew she wanted to work with Sparrow when the time came to refresh it. We were delighted when she reached back out in 2024 ready to get started. Designed in the classic Cape Cod style commonly seen on the East Coast, clad in painted shakes and wood windows and with a large wrap-around porch and multiple sets of French doors, the interior deviated from the design. It was rustic and cabin-inspired with rough exposed beams, stained pine tongue and groove ceilings, natural hickory flooring and cabinetry and a large dark river rock fireplace.
Our priority was to redesign the interiors with the elegance and understated sophistication one would expect to find in a beautiful old home at the Cape, with soft and classic finishes and furniture. The hickory cabinetry in her kitchen, although rustic, was of great quality and in really good condition. Instead of tearing it out, we used the kitchen cabinet profile to guide the profiles across the house. We extended the kitchen with a new custom pantry and island, and painted the cabinets and bookshelves in the adjacent living room in a soft creamy color. The fireplace got a full overhaul with new custom mantle and authentically designed tongue and groove paneling, as well as brick-inspired tile. We updated the guest bathroom with walk-in shower, custom vanity and 2/3 wall paneling. To deliver a home that our client would never want to leave, we completely re-envisioned and redesigned the layout and all finishes in the primary bathroom, complete with full custom casework vanity and closet wall, and combination of classic marble and ceramic tile.
Sparrow also designed and procured a complete furniture package for living, dining, kitchen and primary bedroom. Total project duration, including exterior work, will be 11 months.
